Artist's Description

This photograph recreates Edgar Alan Poe’s short story The Pit and The Pendulum, though I’ve taken certain liberties in it’s representation. A pendulum hangs ominously over an open pit in the center of a room where four smoking kettles stand guard in the corners.

This image is from my series Misbegotten Places, where I photograph small sets built from photographs. With proper lighting and camera angles these sets become lifelike, yet always somewhat misbegotten. Editions are limited to 9 prints.
